Brief Bio-Data of Dr. Jyoti Parikh  

Education and Experience:

Professor Jyoti K Parikh serves as Executive Director of Integrated Research and Action for Development (IRADe). She was a Senior Professor at Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR). She also worked at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) of nearly thirty years on energy and environment problems of the developing countries. She has served as energy consultant to the World Bank, the U.S. Department of Energy, European Economic Community, Brussels and UN agencies such as UNIDO, FAO, UNU, and UNESCO, Environment Consultant to UNDP, World Bank and so on. She served as a visiting professor at the Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS) of UNU in the area of ecorestructuring for sustainable development in 1995-96. She was the Acting Director of IGIDR for 1997-98.

She obtained her M.Sc. from University of California, Berkeley,in 1964 and Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from University of Maryland, College Park in 1967.
 

Past and Present Interests, Projects and Activities:

She has published nearly 150 research papers, books and monographs in the area of environment, energy and physics.

She has carried out national and international projects and guided 12 Ph.D. theses. She has led or participated in projects in the areas of local and global issues of environment, energy demand modelling, power system simulations, alternative fuels (CNG, ethanol), biomass allocation in rural energy systems, impacts of climate change, energy policy, demand side management in electricity sector, natural resource accounting, sustainable development and restructuring consumption patterns, incremental costs and Global Environment Facility (GEF), supporting globally efficient projects by GEF, North-South issues in IPCC response strategies, Joint implementation of climate change projects: opportunities for North-South cooperation, trade and environment, and large scale survey on rural energy, water and sanitation.
