Objective :
- To train participants from Asian countries from environmental
authorities and research and training institutes in Asia on the
use of economic instruments under the particular circumstances
prevailing in Asian developing countries and lead them towards
related activities at national level.
- To present the training resource manual on the use of economic
instruments for environmental and natural resources management
and give guidance for its future use.
- To disseminate the recent publications released by UNEP-ETB
in the field of economics and environment for wider use.
- To develop a pool of regional experts/trainers on the use of
economic instruments for environment and natural resource management
in Asia in order to facilitate regional and national level dissemination.
The overall objective of the workshop is to strengthen
the capacity of policy makers and practitioners in Asia to design
and implement economic instruments. This will be achieved by providing
an understanding of the key factors for a successful application
of economic instruments, in general, and in Asia in particular.
The training targets potential trainers with some background experience
and understanding of environment and natural resource management
who could spread their knowledge onto others in the future. Experts
from highly reputed institutes in India and abroad from academic,
private sectors, and the government will impart holistic training
from multidisciplinary and multi-stakeholder perspectives.

- Recommendation letters in support of her/his candidature are

A certificate will be given by UNEP & IRADe to the participants
on completion of training.
Financial matters :
Course fee is US$1200 that covers local costs, lodging, boarding,
training materials and lectures fees. Scholarships of $1200 to cover
course fee are available for which you are requested to apply while
registering. Participants will be responsible for their own travel
arrangements, such as, air travel, visa and so on. In addition to
course fee, the organizers may provide airfares to a few deserving
participants only, as funds are limited. Participants are requested
to obtain that from elsewhere, well in advance.
Acceptance Letters :
Last Date of application is April 15,2005. Acceptance
letter to the candidates will be sent by April 15, 2005. It is preferred
if applications are sent as soon as possible for early consideration. Program Content :
Sessions with expert inputs, group work and discussion
sessions are planned. Participants are expected to make presentations
about situation in their countries, and to exchange views with each
other for which preparations needs to be made earlier. About the Organizers :
Integrated Research and Action for Development
(IRADe) is a fully autonomous advanced research institute, which
aims to do research and policy analysis, train people and be a hub
network among various stakeholders. The main objectives of the IRADe
are :

To develop understanding that integrates multi-stakeholder
perspectives concerning issues of development.

To develop capacities among professionals for multi-disciplinary
multi-stakeholder policy analysis.

To promote a wider consensus on such policies among stakeholders
and policy makers.

To disseminate ideas and insights to promote sustainable and
inclusive development.
IRADe is currently working with Government organizations such as
the Ministry of Environment & Forest and the Ministry of Non-conventional
Energy Sources. Further, IRADe is collaborating with academic and
research institutions such as Stanford University, Indira Gandhi
Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) and IGES Japan (Institute
for Global Environmental Strategies), with multilateral organizations
such as UNCTAD, UNDP, UNEP and the World Bank, and with NGOs such
as ENERGIA and Winrock International India (WII).
